Anyway, is there anyone out there Here we detail the reasons lights and lamps can mean a failed MOT, and how you can avoid them ahead of your MOT test: Not working. As a rule of thumb: Red warning lights need immediate action. Amber, orange or other colour lights often mean something needs checking by a garage. It’s normal to see some of these lights briefly while you start your engine. This is subsequently carried over into the MOT Inspection Manual. So if any visual lamp has failed and the clicking noise made by the flasher unit can be heard by the tester, this can be considered as an audible warning. However, remember that the tell-tale for the hazard warning lamps must be visual. The MOT test now includes a ‘Malfunction Indicator Lamp’ check. This requires the examiner to visually check that warning lights for electronic stability control, safety restraint systems, anti-lock braking systems and tyre pressure monitoring systems are not permanently illuminated. (Formerly MOT Test of Lights and Headlamps) This section includes lights (lamps) for indicators, reversing, fog, number plate, reflectors etc. The precise requirements for vehicle lighting are complex and, to an extent, dependent upon the age of the vehicle as to where the lights should be situated on the vehicle, the type of lighting, and how they are checked.
